2012 - 2013 school year: American Citizenship & Economics

This school-year of Humanities at Academic Arts High School focuses on government, law, and economics. It will also include a unit on freedom movements, as promised last semester. This class prepares students for citizenship by challenging them to learn their rights, master the system, and discover their power to change the society around them.

 

For American Citizenship, we will be reading Civics: Participating in Government (2002) 

 

1st Quarter:

Unit 1: Americans values, political parties, and campaigns [Ch. 1, 2, 21, 22] (Sep. 4 - Oct. 4), 19 full days

Unit 2: Purpose and History of our Government [Ch. 4, 5] (Oct. 8 - Nov. 1), 16 full days

Last day to earn credit for units 1 and 2: Nov. 8

 

2nd Quarter:

Unit 3: Creating the U.S. Government: The Constitution [Ch. 6, 7] (Nov. 5 - 29), 16 full days

Unit 4: Freedom Movements (Dec. 3 - 13, Jan 3 - Jan 10), 14 full days

Last day to earn credit for units 3 and 4: Jan. 25

 

3rd Quarter:

Unit 5: Federalism: Federal, state, and local Governments [Ch. 11, 12] (Jan. 14 - Feb. 7), 15 full days

4th Quarter: Introduction to Economics
